The Reincarnation of the Strongest

Exorcist in Another World Review

Haruyoshi is the strongest onmyouji in his world. He's betrayed by his friends and, on the verge of death, he wishes to be happy in his next life. He then attempts a secret reincarnation spell. The spell is a success and he is reincarnated, but somehow it's in another world. He is reborn into a distinguished family of wizards, but is judged to have no magical ability. He soon realizes however that the magic in this world is nothing compared to his old onmyou arts, and he declares that he doesn't need magic. He thus begins his easy life in another world with his onmyou arts and a multitude of youkai creatures who follow him.

Overview

Introduced as one of the latest isekai anime of winter 2023, The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World gives us a new entry to a magical world following an overpowered character. However, this show does provide a slightly refreshing twist as it uses oriental style exorcist as the main character rather than your standard high-fantasy wizard. This show was a simple twist to the isekai genre but ultimately leaves us wanting more due to various issues we will discuss below. Really this show leaves both the viewer and me, enticed enough to watch it but missing enough substance to even feel like a coherent thought discussing it can be made.

Story

6/10

Seika Lamprogue, a strong exorcist who dies and is reincarnated in a new world where magic and monsters are real, goes on adventures in The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World. Seika immediately discovers that his abilities are still intact, and he decides to establish himself in this strange new world. He encounters Amyu and Yifa along the trip, two skilled magicians who join him as his traveling companions. The show's overarching plot has solid foundations and is engaging, but it suffers from having too many weakly supported plotlines with no clear resolution. The spectator loses interest in some of the plotlines because they are abruptly dropped or wrapped up too quickly.

Animation

10/8

The show's animation is on par with today's standards but does have a little extra spice when needed. The fight scenes are well-choreographed and fluid, which adds to the excitement of the show. The world-building is also visually stunning, with beautiful landscapes and intricate designs for the magical creatures. The animation is undoubtedly one of the show's strengths, and it adds to the overall enjoyment of the show.

Pacing

5/10

The pace of the show is quite quick, which is nearly damaging to the plot because it prevents the development of plotlines in a way that weakens the overall narrative. It seems as though each episode is rushed through, leaving no time for character or story development. The effect is that the show feels superficial and lacks depth. The plot and characters have a lot of potential, but the quick pacing makes it difficult to properly explore them.

Sound

7/10

Although the show's sound and music are standard, they do give it a good air and fit the mood nicely. The show's tone is established through the iconic and catchy opening and closing themes. The voice acting is also passable, and the voices of the characters are a good fit for their personalities. The fight sequences also have excellent sound effects that heighten the drama and ferocity of the conflict. Overall, the show is made more enjoyable by the sound and music, which nicely complement the animation.

Characters

7/10

The main characters of the show, Seika, Amyu, and Yifa, are barely fleshed out, with little backstory or depth. Their personalities are somewhat stereotypical, with Seika being the typical overpowered protagonist, Amyu being the tsundere love interest, and Yifa being the gentle and supportive character. While the characters are enjoyable to watch and have good chemistry with one another, they lack depth and complexity. Additionally, too many side characters are introduced and then dropped, making it difficult to keep track of who is who and why they matter.

Conclusion

In conclusion, The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World has potential but falls short in several areas. The plot suffers from an excessive number of weakly supported plotlines, an accelerated pacing, and shallow characters. But the animation is nicely done, and the music and sound effects are pleasing. Despite lacking many elements that would have made it outstanding, the show is still entertaining to watch and easy to understand. The show may be for you if you're seeking an entertaining fantasy anime with good action and likable characters. However, you might want to look elsewhere if you're looking for something with more complexity and depth.
